Brodie Williams, a junior member of the 2011-12 Ball State men's golf team, has advanced to the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships in Midway, Utah.
Williams advanced after finishing second at the U.S. Public Links Sectional Qualifying at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. Williams managed a two round total of 73-70=143 to finish behind only Chad Johnson of Plymouth, Mich. Only two players advanced out of the Purgatory Sectional.
The event will be July 9-14 at Soldier Hollow Golf Course
The U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship was established in 1922 and is open to amateur golfers who are bona fide public-course players and have not held privileges of any course that does not extend playing privileges to the general public, or privileges of any private club maintaining its own course, and have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 4.4.
Williams was Ball State's second best finisher at the Mid-American Conference Championships and tied for 13th overall. He managed a career best 54-hole total of 221 at the Firestone Invitational. Williams averaged 74.94 as a junior for the Cardinals, and has a career low 68 at the Hoosier Invitational during his sophomore season.
