Softball’s Carpenter Named To Academic All-MAC Squad

   MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State softball senior center fielder Amanda Carpenter was named to the 2013 Academic All-Mid-American Conference team as announced Friday morning by the league office.

   A total of 22 student-athletes were honored on the 2013 Academic All-MAC squad for softball which is awarded to players who excel in both athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

  A starter in 53 games for Ball State this season, Carpenter finished her collegiate career with a 3.269 GPA as an elementary education major. She was named to the 2013 All-MAC Second Team after leading the conference and ranking 17th among all NCAA Division I players with a 0.34 doubles-per-game average. She also finished the year with a .333 batting average to rank 11th in the MAC, while her 39 RBI were tied for fourth in the league.

   Carpenter, who also blasted five home runs and a triple on the season, ranked fourth in the conference in total bases (96) and sixth in total hits (61). She posted 17 multiple hit games on the year, while producing eight multiple RBI games. Her 10-game hitting streak from April 3 through April 14 also tied as the team’s longest of the season.

   A four-year starter for the Cardinals, Carpenter played in 221 of a possible 226 games over her career, making 220 starts. A .321 career batter, which is 13th in program history, Carpenter also ranks second in program history with 51 career doubles, third in total hits (228), third in RBI (150), fourth in runs scored (142) and fourth in home runs (21).
