MUNCIE, Ind. - - Five members of the Ball State softball program were recognized Monday on the College Sports Madness Mid-American Conference Preseason All-Conference Teams.

The players selected to the preseason all-conference teams were chosen by the staff at College Sports Madness and are expected to make significant contributions to their respective programs in the upcoming season.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was junior outfielder Jennifer Gilbert (McKinney, Texas/McKinney) who was named the preseason Field Player of the Year as well as to the preseason all-conference first team.

Freshman Sasha Margulies (San Diego, Calif./Westview) was the group's preseason pick as the league's Freshman of the Year, while senior center fielder Amanda Carpenter (Santee, Calif./Santana),  junior third baseman Audrey Bickel (Munster, Ind./Andrean) and sophomore right fielder/designated player Hanne Stuedemann (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan) were named to the preseason all-conference second team.

Her 99 total bases and 49 RBI were the fifth-best single season totals in program history, while her 10 home runs were sixth.

Stuedemann was named to both the All-MAC Second Team and the MAC All-Freshman Team last season after playing in 51 games and earning 48 starts, with 25 coming as the designated player and 23 in right field.
