Softball's Workman Scores Pair of Weekly Honors

MUNCIE, Ind. - - For the third time this season, Ball State softball senior hurler Audrey Workman (Wickenburg, Ariz./Yavapai College) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week. In addition, she was named the Madness Softball MAC Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

Workman earns the awards after posting a 2-0 record in league action last week, including guiding the Cardinals to a 6-0 win over Bowling Green to clinch the 2012 MAC Regular Season title last Saturday. In earning her sixth complete game shutout of the season, and third in MAC play, Workman limited the Falcons to just three hits and one walk, while striking out seven batters. Bowling Green was also battling for the MAC regular season title, as they could have looked it up with a pair of wins over Ball State.

Workman opened the week in the second game of a Friday doubleheader versus Toledo, limiting the Rockets to two runs on six hits as BSU earned a 5-2 victory in the contest. Workman struck out seven batters in the game.

Over the two games, Workman posted a 1.00 ERA and collected 14 strikeouts while allowing just nine hits and two runs. For the year, Workman owns a 16-10 record, a 2.93 ERA and 131 strikeouts.

Workman and the Ball State softball team open play in the 2012 Mid-American Conference Tournament Thursday, when they battle the winner of No. 5 Western Michigan vs. No. 4 Ohio for a scheduled 5 p.m. first pitch at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
