CLEVELAND, Ohio - - The Ball State softball team has been picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference West Division standings in the league’s annual preseason poll as voted on by the MAC’s 12 head coaches.
Central Michigan edged out the Cardinals for the top spot in the division despite both teams picking up six first-place votes. Northern Illinois was selected third, followed by Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Toledo.
In the East Division, Kent State picked up seven first-place votes and was followed by Ohio and Miami who garnered two first-place votes each. Rounding out the East Division were Bowling Green, Akron and Buffalo with one first-place vote.
The Chippewas were also the favorite to win the 2014 MAC Tournament Title with four votes to win the event. Ball State, Kent State and Ohio each picked up two votes to win the league’s premier event, while Buffalo and Northern Illinois each earned one.
The Ball State softball team was scheduled to open the 2014 season Friday with a scheduled 11 am ET/10 am CT first pitch versus Southern Illinois. However, weather has forced a change to the schedule with the Cardinals and Salukies now scheduled to play at 2 pm ET/1 pm CT.
