   A four-year letterwinner for the Ball State softball team, Kim Mazzapica was named an assistant coach for the program on July 1, 2013 after completing her first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the program.

   A three-time conference champion as a pitcher for Ball State, Mazzapica helped the Cardinals post a 37-17 overall record in 2013, to go along with an 18-3 MAC mark and the program’s fourth MAC regular season title in the past five seasons.

   Mazzapica helped the Ball State pitching staff rank fourth in the Mid-American Conference with a combined 2.74 earned run average during the 2013 season.

   Her experience in the circle for the Cardinals’ helped Mazzapica mentor freshman pitcher Nicole Steinbach to the program’s first MAC Freshman of the Year award, as well as to recognition on the All-MAC Second Team and MAC All-Freshman. Steinbach finished the year with a 14-9 record and ranked fifth in the MAC with a 2.28 ERA, while her six shutouts ranked second in the conference.

   Mazzapica also worked heavily with freshman pitcher Kelsey Schifferdecker who posted a 15-5 overall record. Schifferdecker’s 15 wins ranked fifth in the conference, while her 2.87 ERA was ninth.
