 Brynne Dordel

Brynne Dordel concluded her second season as the graduate assistant coach for the Ball State softball program in 2013. Her primary duty was working with the Cardinals' pitching staff.

In her two seasons as the program’s pitching coach, Dordel helped the Cardinals win a pair of Mid-American Conference regular season titles and post a combined 77-32 overall record, including a 35-6 mark in league play.

In 2013, Dordel helped mentor a pair of freshman pitchers become one of the strongest duos in the conference. Leading the way was 2013 MAC Freshman of the Year Nicole Steinbach who posted a 14-9 overall record. The first player in program history to earn MAC Freshman of the Year accolades, Steinbach also earned praise on the All-MAC Second Team and MAC All-Freshman team after ranking fifth in the league with a 2.28 earned run average, while her six shutouts ranked second in the conference.

Dordel also helped freshman Kelsey Schifferdecker post a 15-5 overall record as a freshman in 2013. Schifferdecker’s 15 wins ranked fifth in the conference, while her 2.87 ERA was ninth.

Overall, the Ball State pitching staff ranked fourth in the MAC with a combined 2.74 ERA during the 2013 campaign. Steinbach and Schifferdecker also combined to win seven MAC Pitcher of the Week accolades over the course of the 2013 season.

During the 2012 season, Dordel helped mentor senior hurler Kim Mazzapica to a 23-4 record, including a perfect 11-0 ledger in MAC play. Mazzapica finish the season as the only MAC pitcher with an unblemished league mark, while her .852 overall winning percentage is the second-best winning mark in conference history. Prior to her senior season, Mazzapica had only recorded 10 wins in her previous three season with the Cardinals.

The 2012 season also saw senior pitcher Audrey Workman reach new heights, as she racked up a 17-11 overall record and three MAC West Division Player of the Week accolades. Workman also logged three saves and a 2.90 ERA over 190.2 innings of work.

Overall, Mazzapica and Workman combined to help lead the program to just its second 40-win season in program history in 2012. The duo also combined for nine complete game shutouts, with six coming from Workman and three from Mazzapica.

A four-year starting pitcher at Drake University (2008-11), Dordel finished her collegiate playing career last spring ranked fourth in program history with 56 career wins. Her 680 career strikeouts rank second on the Bulldogs' all-time list, while her 222 strikeouts in 2008 are the fourth-best single-season total in program annals.

For her efforts on the mound and in the classroom her senior year, Dordel was named to the Capital One Academic All-America University Division Softball Second Team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Dordel graduated from Drake with a perfect 4.00 grade-point average and was a three-time First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete and a two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII First Team selection.

The 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year, Dordel pitched Drake to the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history with a 19-12 record and an 1.96 earned-run average as a freshman. She was also named the Most Valuable Performer of the 2008 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament after propelling Drake to its first tournament championship since 1994 and earning victories in all three of the Bulldogs' games in the event.

Dordel, who owned a 2.49 career ERA at Drake, was also awarded the MVC's Elite 18 Award following her senior season. The award is given to the competitor with the highest GPA at each of the league's 18 championships. She also earned Second Team All-Conference (2010) and MVC All-Tournament Team (2010 and 2011) accolades over her career.

Dordel's coaching experience includes working as the co-head coach for the MN Chill during the summer of 2009. She coached the U16 club team in local and national tournaments. She has also worked as a clinic instructor since 2005, conducting individual pitching lessons and running clinics with pitching, hitting and fielding aspects.

As a senior in high school Dordel was named the 2007 Gatorade Minnesota Softball Player of the Year. She also graduated as the co-valedictorian at Chaska High School in Chaska, Minn.
