No. 13 Men's Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight

MUNCIE, Ind. - The No. 13 Ball State men’s volleyball team won its fifth-straight match on the heels of a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-22, 25-17) of King College Saturday evening at Worthen Arena. Fifteen Cardinals saw time in the match that saw Ball State hit at .375 (44-12-85). The Cardinals knocked in a season-high nine service aces led by senior Urim Demirovski’s career-high three aces.

 With the win Ball State improves to 12-5 on the year while King falls to 7-12. Ball State has won its last 15 consecutive sets. The win marked the 296th win of head coach Joel Walton’s career.

Freshman Brendan Surane and sophomore Marcin Niemczewski each registered six kills on the season while senior Matt Leske added in five. Seniors Urim Demirovski and Kevin Owens and freshman Alex Pia tallied four for the Cardinals while senior Larry Wrather, junior Matt Sutherland and sophomore Jack Lesure chipped in three kills.

Senior Graham McIlvaine saw action in two sets earning 19 assists and two service aces. Sophomore Hiago Garchet dished out 17 assists. Junior David Ryan Vander Meer got under a match-high eight digs to go with three assists while 11 other Cardinals tallied at least one dig on the night.

Ball State owned a 7.5 – 2 advantage in total team blocks led by Leske and Owens who added four and three assisted blocks.

The Cardinal held the advantage on the night in kills (44-28), assists (40-25) and service aces (9-3).

Ball State will host the second installment of this season’s I-69 rivalry on Tuesday, Mar. 11 when IPFW comes to Worthen Arena. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m.
