Vander Meer Earns MIVA Defensive Player of the Week

MUNCIE, Ind. – Junior libero David Ryan Vander Meer earned his second MIVA Defensive Player of the Week nod after turning in a 4.38 digs per set average in wins against NJIT and then-No. 15 Ohio State. No. 12 Ball State is currently on a ten-match winning streak as it prepares to face No. 1 Loyola on Thursday.

Vander Meer’s career-high 23 digs against NJIT was the most digs in a four-set match in school history during the rally scoring era. The junior followed up that performance by picking up 12 digs against Ohio State en route to the first season sweep of the Buckeyes since the 2002 season.

Between both matches, Vander Meer passed 50 balls only committing two reception errors. The junior has picked up 209 digs this season and leads the MIVA with his 2.65 digs per set average.

This marks the second time this season that Vander Meer has earned a nod from the MIVA.

No. 1 Ball State will travel to No. 1 Loyola for an 8 p.m. ET match before returning home to host No. 11 Lewis on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
