MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State men's volleyball junior middle hitter Matt Leske (Highwood, Ill./Highland Park) has been named to the 2013 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Preseason All-Conference Team as voted on by the league's eight head coaches.
Leske was named to the All-MIVA Second Team as well as the Academic All-MIVA last season as a red-shirt sophomore. He started all 25 matches he played in and saw action in 92 of a possible 95 sets. He was named MIVA Defensive Player of the Week for Mar. 19. Leske ranked first in the conference and eighth nationally in blocks-per-set average at 1.32, he recorded at least one block in every match he played in during the 2012 season.
In addition to the honor given to Leske, the Ball State men's volleyball team was picked to finish fifth in the MIVA preseason poll with 29 points. Lewis was picked to win the conference with 62 points and six first place votes. Loyola and Ohio State were picked second and third with 54 and 52 points respectively. Grand Canyon was picked fourth with 35 points.
The Ball State men's volleyball team opens up the 2013 season on Saturday, Jan. 5 when it hosts its annual alumni match at 7:30 p.m. in Worthen Arena. Admission to the match is free.
The Cardinals will open up the 2013 campaign by hosting St. Francis at Worthen Arena on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
