Gymnastics Team Defeats Eastern Michigan

Ball State's gymnastics team, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Nadalie Walsh, defeated Eastern Michigan 193.425 to 192.150 in its annual THINK PINK MEET. 

With the win, the Cardinals improved to 2-4 on the season and 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference.

Julie Cotter claimed the individual title on the bars with a 9.825, while Angie Hosbach won the floor with a 9.800.  Leah Wilson and Emily Wehrle tied for first on the beam with a pair of 9.75 scores.

Ball State began the meet on the vault and tallied a 47.750, while Eastern Michigan managed a 48.050 on the bars to take the early lead.  Nicole Allen tied for second with a 9.775, while the Eagles took first and third place.

The Cardinals moved to the bars and tallied a 48.500, while EMU managed a 48.325 on the vault.  After two events, the Eagles owned a 96.375 to 96.250 edge.

Cotter won the bar while tying her career high.  The Ball State senior has managed a career best 9.825 on the bars in three straight meets.  Allen placed second with a 9.700.

Ball State moved to the beam and totalled a 48.475, while Eastern Michigan managed a 48.350 on the floor.  After three events, the meet was tied at 144.725.  The Cardinals team score on the beam was its highest of the season.

Wilson and Wehrle tied for first, while Brooklyn Schumacher and Nicole Allen tied for fifrth with scores of 9.675.

In the final rotation of the evening and the meet all tied, Ball State moved to the floor, while EMU advanced to the beam.  The Cardinals tallied a 48.700 and the Eagles could only manage a 48.350 and Ball State earned the win.

Hosbach's career high on the floor paced the Cardinals, while Schumacher, Wehrle, Aftyn Siemer and Allen were all part of a seven way tie for second place with 9.725 marks. 

Ball State will return to action Friday in a 7 p.m. meet at Michigan State before returning to MAC action two days later at Western Michigan in a 1 p.m. meet.  The Cardinals will return to Irving Gym Fri., March 2, in its annual Alumni Meet against Bowling Green at 7 p.m.
