MiQuale Lewis (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider H.S.) and Ian McGarvey (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove H.S.) were selected as the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for their performances in Ball State’s 31-24 victory at Central Michigan last week.
Lewis, a junior H-Back for the Cardinals, rushed for a career high 177 yards on 28 carries. He gained 63 yards while rushing on six of seven plays on the game-winning drive in the fourth quarter. This marks the second time this season Lewis has received the award. He also was named the MAC West Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for a then-career high 166 yards at Indiana.
McGarvey, a sophomore placekicker for the Cardinals, connected on a 21-yard field goal and made 4-of-4 extra points in helping Ball State to the victory at Central Michigan. McGarvey also handled kickoffs for the Cardinals and tallied six for 313 yards, an average of 52.2 yards, while limiting the Chippewas to 93 return yards. McGarvey extended his school record consecutive point after streak to 62. This marked the first time he has received the weekly award from the conference office.
Ball State improved to 11-0 overall and 7-0 in the MAC with the victory at Central Michigan. The Cardinals will host Western Michigan Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a game televised by ESPN2.
