Ball State's football team is halfway through Spring Practice and fourth-year head coach Pete Lembo has released an updated spring depth chart.
"We have had good retention and numerous players have redshirted the last three years," Lembo says. "As a result, we now have some depth in the program. Because of this, there is a lot of intense competition for playing time this spring. Numerous student-athletes that have been role players in the past now have an opportunity to play a more meaningful role. Our focus this spring is on allowing these position battles to play out in practice. As always, there is an emphasis on fundamentals and developing a strong knowledge of our systems. From there, we want to maximize repetitions to see who can excel when the lights go on."
Ball State's offensive depth chart features 11 student-athletes with either freshmen or sophomore eligibility, while the defense has 12 underclassmen listed. Five of the Cardinals listed in the specialists section will be either freshmen or sophomores at Ball State for the 2014 season.
The Cardinals will conduct Spring Practice No. 9 of 15 Tuesday with the culmination of the spring session coming Sat., April 19, with the annual Spring Game at 2 p.m. at Scheumann Stadium.
