Football Takes Part in #WearBlueForTammy

Every March marks colon cancer awareness month.  For the last two years March 18th in particular has been "Wear Blue for Tammy Day."  The event is to honor the memory of Tammy Sawicki, who tragically lost her battle with colon cancer June 1st of last year.

Sawicki's death hit close to home for Ball State sophomore cornerback Tyree Holder.  His father, a Tampa (FL) police officer, was partners with Sawicki's husband and the two families are good friends.

So this year, with some egging on from Sawicki's daughter, Holder wanted to get Ball State football to help the "Wear Blue" effort.  Following the team's weight room session the Cardinals gathered on the Schuemann Stadium turf to photograph themselves in dark blue.  The picture was then posted on facebook along with others from teams ranging from East Carolina volleyball to the Florida Gators baseball team.

According to the American Cancer Society, colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the third most common cause of cancer death in the US.  More information on Tammy and the "Wear Blue" effort can be found at
