Davyd Jones (Muncie, Ind./Central H.S.), a sophomore linebacker on the Ball State University football team, has been selected as the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Jones received the weekly honor for his performance in Ball State’s 31-16 win at Miami University last Tuesday. With the victory, the Cardinals improved to 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the MAC.
Jones managed seven tackles, including two tackles for loss, and one pass breakup in the Ball State victory. He helped Ball State’s defense limit Miami University to 76 total rushing yards and only one touchdown in the game.
Jones, who received the weekly award for the first time in his career, is third for the Cardinals with 61 tackles and leads the team with 7.5 tackles for loss this season.
Ball State plays at Central Michigan Wednesday in a 7 p.m. game which will be televised on ESPN2. The Chippewas are 8-2 overall and 6-0 in league play.
