Ball State improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference with a 51-20 victory at Eastern Michigan . . . This marks the third straight campaign the Cardinals have started the year with a 3-1 record . . . It is only the second time in 89 years of football Ball State has started three straight seasons with at least a 3-1 record, with the other being the 1963 (3-1), 1964 (4-0) and 1965 (4-0) campaigns.
Ball State is the only Football Bowl Subdivision team in the country to have scored a touchdown on its opening drive in each of the first four games of 2013 . . . East Carolina and Baylor have scored touchdowns on opening drives in their only three games this season.
The Cardinals' win at Eastern Michigan was their sixth straight MAC victory dating back to the 2012 season . . . Four of those six consecutive MAC wins have been on the road.
Ball State is 3-0 in MAC openers under third-year head coach Pete Lembo after the win at Eastern Michigan . . . The Cardinals are 6-2 in their last eight MAC openers.
The Cardinals have scored 169 points in their first four games this season -- Illinois State (51), Army (40), North Texas (27) and Eastern Michigan (51) . . . The 169 points are the most in school history in the first four games of a season . . . The mark surpasses the 166 points scored by the 2008 team that went on to finish the regular season with a 12-0 record.
Ball State scored 51 points at Eastern Michigan, which marks the second time this season the Cardinals have scored at least 50 points in a game . . . It marks only the second time in school history and the first time since 1965 the Cardinals have scored at least 50 points in two games in the same season.
Ball State ranks No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference in scoring offense (42.2) and passing offense (336.0), while ranking No. 2 in the league in scoring defense (24.0) . . . The Cardinals are 13th in the nation in passing offense.
Ball State's 31-point margin of victory at Eastern Michigan was the largest for the Cardinals since a 45-14 victory over Northern Illinois Nov. 5, 2008 . . . The Cardinals scored on their first four drives at EMU and all four drives were six plays or fewer and took less than 2:30 off the clock . . . Two of the drives were only two plays and took a combined 56 seconds.
Senior Keith Wenning is one of only two Football Bowl Subdivision quarterbacks in the country with at least 300 passing yards in four games this year . . . Sean Mannion of Oregon State is the only other quarterback to accomplish the feat in 2013.
Ball State has recovered six fumbles from opponents this year to lead the MAC and rank third in the nation . . . In addition, the Cardinals are first in the MAC and eighth in the nation in turnovers gained with 10 (6 fumbles, 4 interceptions).
