Scott Kovanda Wins Two MAC Football Weekly Awards

MUNCIE, Ind. - Junior punter Scott Kovanda has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week and the MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

Kovanda, who owns a 3.898 grade-point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale as a finance major, helped the Cardinals to a 23-20 victory at Ohio University to improve to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the MAC.  Ball State continues league action when it hosts Central Michigan Saturday at 2 p.m. in Scheumann Stadium.

Kovanda punted seven times for 327 yards while averaging 46.7 yards. He pinned Ohio inside the 20-yard line four times and had a career-long 67-yard punt. With the Cardinals maintaining a 23-20 lead, Kovanda pinned Ohio at the one-yard line on a 47-yard punt with 8:06 remaining in the game, and then with 3:15 left in the contest, punted the ball on the 5-yard line to help seal the win for Ball State.
