NOTES:  Led Ball State's defense to a ranking of fourth in the Mid-American Conference in scoring defense, while the Cardinals also ranked seventh in the nation in turnovers gained (30) and ninth nationally in turnover margin (+1.0) in 2013 . . . coached Ben Ingle to All-Mid-American Conference Second-Team honors in 2013 . . . coached linebackers Travis Freeman and defensive end Jonathan Newsome to All-Mid-American Conference Second-Team honors in 2012 plus had Nathan Ollie (defensive tackle) and Eric Patterson (defensive back) named to the third team . . . served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for Ball State head coach Pete Lembo at Elon from 2006-10, and added the title of assistant head coach for the 2010 season . . . also served on Coach Lembo's staff at Lehigh in 2005 . . . At Elon, tutored All-American linebacker Chad Nkang, who was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars, marking the first Elon football player drafted by the National Football League since 1992 . . . Nkang also earned Southern Conference Player of the Year honors as a senior . . . tutored at least one all-conference linebacker every year at Elon . . . helped Elon to 35 victories in five years after arriving at a program that posted a 14-42 mark in the five years prior . . . coordinated a defense that allowed just 248.33 yards per game to lead the Southern Conference and rank fourth nationally in 2009 . . . At Lehigh, Bateman's run defense ranked sixth in the country in 2005 . . . spent four seasons as head coach at Siena from 1999-2003.
