Ball State fourth-year head football coach Pete Lembo will put the Cardinals through the annual Spring Game Saturday with a 2 p.m. kickoff scheduled at Scheumann Stadium.

The gates will open at 1:30 p.m. with Gate 4 serving as the main entrance for the event, which is open to everyone and is free of charge.  There will be a clothing drive at Gate 4 for anyone interested in bringing gently used clothing to be donated to the Muncie Bargain Box.

In addition to the game, there will be 500 free hot dogs distributed to fans, courtesy of Fishers Meats, and an Easter egg hunt will take place with Charlie Cardinal at the north end of the stadium at halftime.  At the conclusion of the game, fans are welcome to enter the game field for photos and autographs with Ball State players and coaches.

Lembo earlier announced football alumni Mike Lecklider and Art Yaroch will serve as honorary coaches for this year’s Spring Game.

“We are very excited to have Art and Mike on the sidelines with the team for this year’s Spring Game,” Lembo said.  “I have really enjoyed getting to know these two successful football alumni over the last three years.  Their loyalty and efforts to stay connected, as well as their generosity, sets a great example for other football alumni. Our current student-athletes will definitely enjoy getting to know both of them.”

The pair helped the Cardinals to an 8-3 overall record, a 4-1 Mid-American Conference record and the 1976 MAC Championship.

The format for this year’s Spring Game is an offense vs. defense scrimmage with special teams drills in between quarters.  On all fourth downs, the offense will either punt or kick a field goal.  There will be five series per quarter, and a unique scoring system will be used.

DEFENSE:       Drive Stop = 1 point
                        Three and Out = 3 points
                        Takeaway = 5 points
                        Touchdown = 6 points
                        PAT = 1 point

OFFENSE:        First Down = 1 point
                        Field Goal = 3 points
                        Touchdown = 6 points
                        PAT = 1 point
                        2-point Conversion = 2 points

Ball State is in the midst of Spring Practice in preparation for the 2014 season opener Saturday, Aug. 30, vs. Colgate at Scheumann Stadium.  The Cardinals will also host Indiana State Sept. 13, Western Michigan for Homecoming Oct. 11, Akron Oct. 25, Northern Illinois Nov. 5 and Eastern Michigan Nov. 22.
