BOONE, N.C. - - The Ball State (2-0) field hockey team has added another win to their early season after defeating Appalachian State (1-1) 4-1 Monday afternoon at Adcock Field.
After posting their first win of the season yesterday against Davidson, the Cardinals continued to dominate offensively with their second four goal game in a row. Junior Bethany Han (Lititz, Pa/Warwick) scored two goals, while sophomores Colleen McGlynn (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) and Merinda Morley (University City, Mo./University City) rounded out the scoring for the Cardinals.
"Today's game was a true battle," Ball State field hockey head coach Beth Maddox said. "We were scrappy and relentless and beacause of that we were able to leave the weekend 2-0."
Defensively, Ball State faced seven shots on goal from the Mountaineers, with junior Shelby Henley (Novi, Mich./Novi) earning an outstanding six saves for a 0.857 save percentage. The Labor Day victory was Henley’s second consecutive game of only allowing one goal against.
McGlynn opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with her first career goal, followed by Appalachian State responding to tie the game at one just three minutes later with their only point of the game.
Han’s initial tally proved to be her first unassisted and game winning goal in her career, while Morley notched a mark on her own in the 48th minute in addition to the assist on Han’s second goal.
The Ball State field hockey team returns to action Saturday, September 6, when they take on Colgate at 2 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y.
