Muncie, Ind. – Natalie Jardell, a junior back on the Ball State field hockey team, has been named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Cardinals’ two games last weekend.
Jardell, a Granville, Ohio native, recorded two defensive saves Monday in the 4-1 win over Appalachian State after helping the Cardinals defeat Davidson 4-1 Sunday in the season opener.
“She played really well and was the reason we were so strong defensively,” Ball State field hockey head coach Beth Maddox said. “She had the two saves and played her best game on Sunday.”
Ball State (2-0) leads the MAC with its undefeated record this 2014 season. The Cardinals also lead the MAC in points (22), goals (8), goals per game (4), assists (6) and assists per game (3). Defensively, Ball State leads with only two goals against and a 1.00 goal against average.
The Ball State field hockey team returns to action Saturday, Sept. 6, when it takes on Colgate at 2 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y.
