Field Hockey to "Think Pink" Against Ohio

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State field hockey team will close out the 2013 home season against Mid-American foe Ohio Saturday at 1 p.m. at the BSU Turf Field at the Briner Sports Complex. The game will be the “Think Pink” game and all fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support of breast cancer awareness.

Ball State (5-10, 0-3 MAC) fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes, 2-1, Wednesday at the BSU Turf Field. Freshman Lexi Kavanaugh scored a goal off a pass from sophomore Natalie Jardell. Sophomore goalie Shelby Henley made 12 saves on the day while red-shirt sophomore Bianca Velez made her sixth defensive save of the season.

In the MAC, Ball State ranks third in shots (167) and shots per game (11.13). The Cardinal and White lead the league in saves (118) and saves per game (7.87). Junior Tarel Teach is third in the conference in shots (34) and shots per game (2.27). Velez leads the league in defensive saves this season with six. Henley also tops the MAC in saves (103) and saves per game (6.87)

SCOUTING OHIO: The Bobcats are 6-8 overall and 2-1 in MAC play. Ohio is on a two-game winning streak having defeated conference opponent Missouri State 3-2 in overtime before taking down Saint Louis 4-1. Ohio is 2-6 on the road this season.

As a team, Ohio is ranked third in the MAC in goals scored per game with a 1.69 average. Conversely, the Bobcats are also third in the league in goals allowed per game at 2.62. Ohio is third in the conference in penalty corners drawing 7.00 per game.

Senior Luli Gomez Teruel leads the offense and ranks first in the MAC in goals scored (10) and goals per game (0.77). Gomez Teruel is fourth in the league in shots (29) and shots per game (2.23). Senior Jessica Jue has tallied two game-winning goals for the Bobcats this season. Junior goalie Brittany Walker’s 2.45 goals against average puts her fourth in the MAC.

SERIES HISTORY: Ohio holds the series advantage with a 37-34 record that dates back to the 1975 season. Last season the Bobcats took a 7-0 win in Athens, Ohio.
