Field Hockey Withstands Late Push from UC Davis

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State field hockey team withstood a late push from UC Davis to earn a 3-2 win Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Lexi Kavanaugh, red-shirt sophomore Bianca Velez and junior Tori Widrick all scored for the Cardinals.

With the win the Cardinals move to 4-4 on the season while the Aggies fall to 1-6 on the year.

Kavanaugh got the Cardinals up on the board in the seventh minute knocking in a shot off a deflection.  Ball State would get a second goal off a penalty corner in the 13th minute. Widrick fed the Ball to Natalie Jardell who was able to set up Velez.  Velez would get an assist four minutes letter when Widrick secured a goal in the 17th minute.

The Cardinals would keep the Aggies scoreless the remainder of the first half. UC Davis scored in the 55th minute and then in the 65th minute.

Sophomore Shelby Henley was credited with five goals while junior Jenna Rosenberry was also credited with a defensive save. 

UC Davis held the advantage in shots (17-12) and penalty corners (7-5).
