SAINT LOUIS – The Ball State field hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision to the Saint Louis Billikens Sunday afternoon. Freshman Lexi Kavanaugh scored both goals for the Cardinals.
Saint Louis got on the board early scoring in the fourth minute. Kavanaugh would register her first goal of the game in the 18th minute when she dribbled through the defense on the right side. The score remained 1-1 going into halftime.
Ball State would strike first in the second half when freshman Mikayla Mooney dribbled through the right side of the defense to find Kavanaugh on the left side. Saint Louis would knot things up in the 59th minute and would then score in the 63rd and 70th minute.
Ball State would shoot 18 shots to Saint Louis’ 19. The Bilikens held the advantage in penalty corners (9-5) and saves (8-3). Ten Cardinals were credited with shots with Bethany Han leading the way with four shots, two of which were on goal.
With the loss the Cardinals fall to 3-4 on the season while Bilikens improve to 1-7.
Ball State will return home to the BSU Turf Field at the Briner Sports Complex on Wednesday, Sept. 25 when it hosts UC-Davis at 3 p.m. The team will also host Vermont on Saturday, Sept. 28 at noon. You can keep track of the team at ballstatesports.com.
