SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Two Cardinals scored goals, however the Ball State field hockey team fell to Mid-American Conference foe Missouri State, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Plaster Stadium.

At 16:17 mark, the Bears’ Hillary Lawless put Missouri State on the board after she got past senior goalkeeper Chelsea Mitchell (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) and tipped it in.

Then, the Cardinals netted the equalizer at 27:37 mark as senior forward Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) scored on a shot past netminder Andrea Bain, for her fifth goal of the season. Freshman defender Laura Malinoski (Eastampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) tallied the assist for the Cardinals, for her fourth career assist.

Missouri State followed that performance with a second goal just over five minutes before halftime at 29:58 mark.

Ball State returned in the second period at 47:37 mark as freshman midfielder Tori Widrick (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) tallied her fourth career goal.

Missouri State then scored twice to put the Bears up, 4-2, until Widrick scored her second goal of the game on a rebound from Bain.

Kuhn finished the contest with five shots, while senior defender Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) posted three, freshman forward Kaitlin Thompson (San Carlos, Calif./St. Francis) recorded two and freshman midfielder Sanne Hermans (The Hague, Holland) tallied one shot.
