Gretchen Lulow Named Assistant Field Hockey Coach
"We are thrilled to have Gretchen join our coaching staff," Maddox says. "She was an incredible player here at Ball State and we know her knowledge of the game will be an asset for the program. Gretchen brings a competitive energy to everything she does and we know our team will welcome the competition."
Lulow, who has served as a student coach for the Cardinals since January, was Ball State's team captain as a senior in 2011. She was named to the All-Mid-American Conference and Academic All-MAC team in 2010 and 2011 plus was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team in 2011. In addition to her field hockey experience, Lulow served as a strength and conditioning intern at Ball State during the second semester of the 2011-12 academic year.
"I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to begin my coaching career at Ball State," Lulow says. "I am looking forward to being a part of the coaching staff and working with a great group of student-athletes. I am looking forward to helping the program grow and return to becoming a force in the MAC."
In addition to her Ball State experience, Lulow has served as a summer camp coach for Gateway Field Hockey in St. Louis, Mo., since 2007. She has also served as a National Field Hockey Festival Coach since 2007. From 2008-11, Lulow also served as a summer camp coach for Aim Field Hockey in St. Louis. In 2009 and 2010, she was a Regional Futures Tournament Coach for USA Field Hockey.
A native of Ballwin, Mo., Lulow earned her bachelor's degree from Ball State in May of 2012 in exercise science. The daughter of Steve and Laurie Lulow, she managed a 3.88 grade-point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale and was a member of the Dean's List from 2007-12, including being on the Honors College Dean's List from 2007-09.
