MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State soccer team will play host to the Haiti Women’s National Team on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Briner Sports Complex. Admission is free.
Ball State, in the midst of its spring schedule, will play Haiti for the second year in a row. The Cardinals posted a 1-0 victory in last year’s meeting.
“We are truly delighted to have the opportunity to play the Haiti National Team again in Muncie,” Ball State head coach Craig Roberts said. “It offers us a chance to compete against very seasoned players and presents a challenge we need to continue to grow. The experience last year helped to create maturity and confidence among our team, and it was a tremendous part of our development process.”
Haiti is No. 57 in the FIFA world rankings and No. 6 in the CONCACAF region. The team is preparing for 2015 World Cup qualifying and will be playing various exhibitions in Indiana over coming weeks, including contests against Notre Dame and Valparaiso.
Haiti is coached by Shek Borkowski, who also coaches the FC Indiana women’s professional team based out of South Bend.
Ball State is off to a 2-0 start to its spring campaign after posting a pair of 4-0 wins last weekend over Findlay and Grace College. The Cardinals will play a total of eight spring games as they work toward their traditional season in the fall.
Last fall, Ball State reached the championship game of the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the first time in program history. The Cardinals finished 11-7-4 overall, reaching double-digit wins for the first time since 2007 and improving their winning percentage for the fourth straight season.
