MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team will close out its regular season at home Thursday against defending Mid-American Conference champion Miami University.

The contest is slated for 3 p.m. at the Briner Sports Complex with both teams jockeying for seeding in the MAC Tournament, which begins only three days later.

Ball State (10-5-3, 5-3-2 MAC) could be anywhere from the No. 5 seed to the No. 7 seed depending upon the outcome of Thursday’s games around the league. Miami (9-6-3, 6-1-3 MAC) will be one of the top four seeds in the tournament and enters Thursday’s game still with a shot at the regular-season title.

Ball State split two games on the road last weekend, posting a 2-0 win over Bowling Green and falling by a 1-0 margin in double overtime at Central Michigan.

Goalkeeper Layne Schramm, who continues to lead the MAC in goals against average and save percentage, allowed just one goal in 194 minutes between the posts last weekend. She posted her fifth shutout of the season against the Falcons. Victoria Jacobs scored her fourth goal of the year in the win over Bowling Green, matching Michelle Blok and Kelsey Wendlandt for the most on the team.

Miami comes to Muncie riding a nine-game unbeaten streak. The RedHawks, which have not lost since their MAC opener at Akron, defeated Central Michigan at home and tied Bowling Green on the road last weekend.

Five different Miami players have scored at least four goals on the year, led by Kelsey Dinges and Katy Dolesh with six each. The RedHawks, however, have leaned heavily on defense in conference play, shutting out seven of their 10 MAC opponents and allowing just four total goals in league action.

All-time, Ball State holds an 8-6-2 advantage in the series with Miami. The Cardinals were the only MAC team not to lose to the RedHawks last season, playing them to a 1-1 draw in Oxford, Ohio.
