Soccer Hosts Buffalo And Kent State This Weekend

Ball State closes out the home portion of the 2011 regular season this weekend as it hosts Buffalo Friday afternoon and Kent State Sunday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.

Moses Earns MAC Honors . . .
Freshman forward Jasmine Moses was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week Monday (Oct. 10) ... Moses scored two goals on the weekend to help the Cardinals extend their unbeaten streak to five straight games ... She scored her team-leading and league-leading fourth game-winning goal of the season in the Cardinals' 2-1 victory over Akron in the 86th minute of play ... She followed that up with her team-leading seventh goal of the season Sunday afternoon in the Cardinals' 1-1 tie against Ohio ... Moses ranks seventh all-time in Ball State single-season scoring history with seven goals and is second in history with four game-winning goals.

Upping The Win Total . . .
Ball State enters the weekend with an 9-4-2 overall record and a 4-1-2 mark in Mid-American Conference play ... The Cardinals' nine wins have already surpassed last season's win total (seven), while their four MAC wins has eclipsed last year's mark (one) as well ... Ball State has already recorded its most wins in a season since tallying 13 wins in 2007.

Additionally, the Cardinals have posted a 7-1-2 record over their past 10 games ... Ball State has not posted a 10-game stretch this strong since the 2007 season when it posted an 8-1-1 record over 10 games ... That year, the Cardinals posted a 13-5-2 record, including a 9-1-1 mark in MAC play to win its second straight regular season title.

Scoring Defenders . . .
Ball State has scored 27 goals this season with 11 of its goals coming from its defensive back line ... Junior defender Brigit Reder is second on the team in scoring with six goals on the year ... Reder is the highest scoring defender in the Mid-American Conference this year and ranks fourth in the league overall in goals scored ... Her six goals are the most in a single season by a Cardinals' defender in Ball State history and ranks 10th all-time overall on the single-season goals scored list.

Freshman Pavla Benyrova is third on the team with three goals while junior Skylar Chew and freshman Victoria Jacobs have also recorded a goal this year ... Jacobs found the back of the net Sunday afternoon, notching the game-winning tally at Bowling Green for her first career goal.

Freshmen Stepping Up . . .
Ball State has an 11-member freshman class this season and they have made an impact on the team during the first 15 games ... Six different freshmen have scored goals this season, while four freshmen have handed out assists ... Additionally, five different freshmen have started at least eight games this year.

Forward Jasmine Moses leads the team and is tied for second in the Mid-American Conference in scoring with seven goals this season ... Defender Pavla Benyrova has scored three goals and midfielder Becca Sutton has posted two goals ... Also, forward Hannah Chadick, midfielder Ellie Chadick and defender Victoria Jacobs have each found the back of the net this season.

Sutton leads the team and the freshman class with four assists while Ellie Chadick has handed out three helpers ... Additionally, Cailey Starck and Benyrova each have an assist this year.

Series History . . .
Friday's game marks the 13th meeting all-time between Ball State and Buffalo ... The Cardinals lead the series 6-5-1 and have posted a 2-0-1 mark over the last three meetings ... Additionally, Ball State is 4-1-0 all-time against the Bulls in Muncie.

Last year, the Cardinals posted a 2-2 double overtime tie in Buffalo ... The Bulls jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead before the Cardinals' rallied for two second half goals ... Defender Brigit Reder scored both goals for the Cardinals, who out-shot the Bulls 14-3 in the second half.

Sunday's game marks the 14th meeting all-time between Ball State and Kent State ... The Cardinals hold a 6-5-2 record all-time against the Golden Flashes but have dropped two straight in the series ... Ball State owns a 4-0-2 record all-time against Kent State in Muncie, including a 3-0 victory in the last meeting in 2008.

Last year, Kent State posted a 4-1 victory at home over the Cardinals ... Ball State scored early as Sarah Orisich found the back of the net in the fifth minute but Kent State responded with four unanswered to claim the victory.

Last Weekend  . . .
The Cardinals ran their unbeaten streak to five straight games with a 2-1 victory over Akron and a 1-1 tie over Ohio last weekend.

Friday, the Cardinals rallied from a one-goal deficit to score two goals in the final 10 minutes to take home the victory over the Zips ... Freshman Becca Sutton scored the tying goal in the 80th minute while classmate Jasmine Moses posted the game-winning goal in the 86th minute of play.

Ball State settled for a 1-1 tie against the Bobcats Sunday despite out-shooting Ohio by a 40-18 margin ... The 40 shots are a BSU single-game record, surpassing the previous high of 36 shots recorded against Ohio in 2009 ... Moses scored the Cardinals' lone goal in the 47th minute of play to tie the game.

Scouting The Cardinals . . . 
Ball State enters the weekend with a 9-4-2 overall record and a 4-1-1 mark in Mid-American Conference play ... The Cardinals have posted a 7-1-2 record over their past 10 games ... The Cardinals lead the MAC in scoring (27) and shots (255) while placing second in assists (26).

Freshman forward Jasmine Moses leads the team and is second in the MAC with seven goals ... Moses leads the MAC with four game-winning goals ... Junior defender Brigit Reder is tied for the team lead with 14 points, on the strength of six goals and two assists ... Reder leads all MAC defenders in scoring ... Freshman Becca Sutton leads the team with four assists while junior Paige Stroinski has also handed out four helpers.

Junior goalkeeper Aubrey Buehler owns a 1.07 goals against average ... Buehler has an 8-3-2 record with four shutouts.

Scouting The Bulls . . . 
Buffalo enters today's game with a 9-3-2 overall record and a 2-2-2 mark in MAC play ... The Bulls are coming off their biggest league win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Western Michigan, the only MAC team to defeat the Cardinals ... Buffalo has scored 20 goals while only allowing 10 goals against.

Katie Roberts leads the Bulls in scoring with 13 points as she has scored five goals and handed out three assists ... Aubrey Stahl and Taylor Thompson are tied for second on the team with three goals.

Goalkeeper Ainsley Wheldon owns a 0.71 goals against average with seven shutouts and is 7-3-2 on the year.

Scouting The Flashes . . .
Kent State entered the weekend with a 9-5-0 record and a 3-3-0 mark in MAC play ... The Golden Flashes played at Toledo Friday ... KSU has scored 25 goals while allowing 22 goals against.

Jaclyn Dutton and Jessacca Gironda lead Kent State with 14 points each (5g, 4a) ... Stephanie Haugh is also tied for the goal scoring lead with five goals while Megan Repas leads the team with six assists.

In goal, Kelly Sherwood has a 1.55 goals against average and has posted four shutouts.
MAC Weekly Honors . . .
Ball State has claimed two Mid-American Conference weekly honors this season as freshman Pavla Benyrova and junior Brigit Reder have earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season ... Benyrova picked up the honors for the week of Aug. 29-Sept 4 ... She scored her first career collegiate goal in dramatic fashion against Indiana State, posting the game-winning double-overtime goal to lift the Cardinals to a 2-1 victory.

Reder, the team's captain and defensive leader, took home the honor for the week of Sept 5-11 as she scored nine points in two games and helped the Cardinals' defense hold opponents to just three goals in the tournament ... Reder became just the fourth Cardinal all-time to post a hat trick and the first Ball State defender to accomplish the feat against Lamar as all three of her goals came in the second half  ... Her seven points against Lamar are a Ball State single-game record ... She opened the tournament with a goal against host Northern Arizona.

All-Tournament Honors . . .
Junior defenders Skylar Chew and Brigit Reder along with junior midfielder Maggie Brown earned All-Tournament accolades at the WKU Tournament in the first weekend of the season ... Chew and Reder led the Cardinals to a season-opening shutout while Brown scored two goals in two games to open the season.
Looking Ahead . . .
Ball State has three more games in the regular season as it travels to Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Toledo.
