Ball State wraps up spring play Friday at 4 p.m. at the Briner Sports Complex

Soccer Continues Strong Spring Season

                MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State soccer team continued its strong spring season posting a 1-1-1 record last weekend in its home tournament at the Briner Sports Complex. The Cardinals own a 4-1-2 record this spring season and will conclude play Friday afternoon as it hosts a Canadian U-18 team at 4 p.m.

                "Overall, we are delighted with everyone's development this spring," head coach Craig Roberts said. "The areas we have been working on in practice have paid dividends in the games. The progress and development we have made this spring as a team will be crucial for us next season."

                Last weekend, the Cardinals hosted its home tournament playing three games at the Briner Sports Complex. Ball State opened play against national power Purdue, suffering a hard-fought 1-0 loss to the Boilermakers. Purdue scored the game's lone goal on a 30-yard strike in the first half.

                The Cardinals followed that game with a 1-1 tie in their annual alumni game. Forward Nicole Pembleton (Mississauga, Ontario/Clarkson Secondary) scored the lone goal for the Cardinals, notching her second tally of the spring campaign.

                Ball State wrapped up play at the Briner Sports Complex with a dominating 4-1 victory over Findlay. Midfielder Sarah Orisich (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) opened the scoring with her first goal of the spring, placing a shot high into the corner from 12-yards out. Forward Shaniece Thorpe (Westmoreland, Jamaica./WVIT) tallied her first spring goal to make it a 2-0 game as she beat the Findlay goalkeeper on a one-on-one breakaway.

                The Cardinals added their third goal as forward Jasmine Moses (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) scored her second spring goal of the season. After a Findlay goal off a corner kick, forward Paige Stroinski (Granger, Ind./Penn) capped the scoring with a 30-yard strike into the upper right corner of the net. 

                "Several players who did not play much in the fall have turned in positive performances this spring playing with a lot more confidence and composure," Roberts said. "In particular, Lindsay Kempf and Michelle Blok have made great strides this spring."
