Brian Simpson joined the Ball State soccer coaching staff as an assistant in the spring of 2013. A former player at Anderson University, he brings experience as a coach at the college, high school and club levels.

Simpson helped the 2013 Ball State team to an 11-7-4 record, marking the most wins for the program since 2007. The Cardinals also reached the championship game of the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the first time ever.

Simpson most recently assisted at Anderson, where he spent two seasons with the men’s team in addition to working with the women’s team in the spring of 2011.

Prior to joining the staff at his alma mater, Simpson served as the varsity girls’ head coach at nearby Pendleton Heights High School from 2008-11. He guided the Arabians to a pair of Hoosier Heritage Conference championships and was once named the league’s coach of the year.

Simpson, who previously served as an assistant at Pendleton Heights, also has experience coaching and directing youth programs with Pendleton FC and Hoosier FC in Noblesville. He is the youth director of coaching for Hoosier FC, and he led its under-12 girls’ team to an Indiana Youth Soccer state championship in 2012.

A former elementary school teacher, Simpson is now working on his master’s degree at Ball State in physical education with a coaching specialization.

Simpson earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Anderson in 2007. He is married to Rachel Simpson.
