James Whitford Chillin4Charity
Ball State men's basketball coach James Whitford tried to put his own stamp on the Chillin4Charity challenge currently sweeping the athletics landscape.
Called out by Kent State's Rob Senderoff and Bradley's Geno Ford, Whitford went searching high and low for a way around getting wet. In the end, though, even he couldn't avoid the water.
Whitford, in turn, called out Ball State legend and current Detroit head coach Ray McCallum, Western Michigan head coach Steve Hawkins and Arizona assistant coach Emanuel Richardson.
The challenge was started to benefit the Kay Yow Foundation, helping raise awareness for breast cancer and funds for research. When coaches are called out, they have 48 hours to respond by taking on the cold water challenge. Head coaches that fail to do so owe the Kay Yow Foundation $250. Assistants owe $100. If a coach answers the bell, the challenging head coach owes $50; $25 for assistants.
Whitford is one of several Ball State coaches who have answered the challenge in recent weeks, joining the entire women's basketball staff and women's volleyball head coach Steve Shondell.
