MUNCIE, Ind. – Ryan Weber, an Indianapolis native and transfer from Youngstown State, has signed scholarship papers with the Ball State men’s basketball team.

Weber, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound wing, will sit out the 2014-15 season and then have two years of eligibility with the Cardinals. He is one of six incoming players on next year’s team.

“We are extremely excited to add Ryan Weber to our program,” Ball State head coach James Whitford said. “Ryan had a great season at Youngstown State and has proven he can produce at a high level in college. He has improved so dramatically over the past two years, and we feel he has the right work ethic and the right talent to become an even better player than he is already. We are really excited about his future, and we think he will make a big impact in our conference when he becomes eligible.”

Weber blossomed in his sophomore season at Youngstown State, averaging 12.2 points and 4.3 rebounds in 33.0 minutes per game. He led the Penguins in shooting from 3-point range (41.7 percent) and the free throw line (85.9 percent). He was Youngstown State’s second-leading scorer and raised his average more than 10 points per game from his freshman campaign.

Weber was especially effective in conference play, scoring 13.8 points per game and knocking down 45.2 percent from beyond the arc against Youngstown State’s Horizon League schedule.

Before signing with Youngstown State, Weber was an All-Marion County selection at Roncalli High School in Indianapolis, averaging nearly 15 points per game as a senior.

He joins an incoming crop of players that features four freshmen, including Indiana All-Stars Sean Sellers and Jeremie Tyler, plus junior college All-American Bik Gill.
