MUNCIE, Ind. – Mark Alstork and Quinten Payne, freshman guards this season for the Ball State men’s basketball team, will seek to transfer.

Alstork played in all 30 games and made 15 starts for the Cardinals in 2013-14, while Payne played in 29 games. Ball State has granted both players’ requests to speak with other institutions regarding a possible transfer.

“We want to thank Mark and Quinten for their time here at Ball State,” head coach James Whitford said. “They did an excellent job representing our university, both on and off the court. We support their decisions to find new schools, and we wish them the best going forward.”

Alstork, a 6-foot-4 guard from Thurgood Marshall High School in Dayton, Ohio, averaged 5.6 points and 3.1 rebounds while playing 22.6 minutes per game. He scored in double figures seven times, including a January game at Kent State when he posted career highs with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

“I am thankful for the opportunity I have had to play here,” Alstork said. “I appreciate the coaches at Ball State, and I am looking forward to continuing my college basketball career.”

Payne, a 6-foot-5 guard from North High School in St. Charles, Ill., averaged 11.9 minutes per game, scoring 52 points and handing out 20 assists. He logged season highs with six points and five assists against Taylor in November and also had five assists in a November win over Southeast Missouri.

“I have enjoyed the chance to play with my teammates and for my coaches at Ball State,” Payne said. “The people associated with the program are top-of-the-line, from the coaches to the managers, and they helped me with a lot of things as I made the transition to college. I also want to thank the people throughout the community for their support and my professors who have influenced me academically. I am looking forward to the chance to make a name for myself in a new situation, and I appreciate the coaches helping me through this phase.”
