MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men’s basketball program has added Muncie Central High School product and University of Cincinnati transfer Jeremiah Davis III to its roster.

Davis has enrolled in classes at Ball State. He will practice with the Cardinals during the spring semester, though he will not be immediately eligible able to play in games because of NCAA transfer rules.

The 6-foot-3 guard is in his third year of college. His family lost its Muncie home to a fire in November, and he sought to transfer after completing the fall semester at Cincinnati.

“Jeremiah’s family has been through some very difficult circumstances in the past few months, and that has led to him wanting to be closer to home,” Ball State head coach James Whitford said. “Enrolling at Ball State allows him to be close to his family and to continue playing the game he loves as part of our program.”

Davis averaged nearly eight minutes per game as a freshman in 2011-12 for a Cincinnati team that reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. He was limited to four games last season because of a wrist injury for which Cincinnati has requested a medical hardship. He then saw action in six games for the Bearcats during the first semester of this season.

Davis averaged 16.3 points per game in his final year at Muncie Central, helping the 2009-10 Bearcats to conference and sectional championships on his way to being named The Star Press Athlete of the Year for boys’ basketball. He then played one season for nationally ranked Huntington (W. Va.) Prep, averaging 10 points per game in 2010-11, before beginning his college career at Cincinnati.

“We are excited to add Jeremiah to our program,” Whitford said. “He is a high character young man. He has great talent and experience, and he is hungry to get better. He will be a really strong addition to our team, and we are thrilled to have him.”
