MUNCIE, Ind. -- Former Ball State men's basketball player Dan Palombizio, who earned Mr. Basketball honors for Michigan City Rogers High School in 1981, has been selected for induction into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

Palombizio completed his Ball State career in 1986 and still holds the school's single-season scoring record. He will be enshrined in New Castle in March as part of the hall's 14-member class for 2013.

After transferring from Purdue following his sophomore year, Palombizio went on to earn honorable mention All-America honors in both his seasons at Ball State. He led the Mid-American Conference in scoring (26.3 ppg) and rebounding (11.0 rpg) as a junior while setting the school record with 762 points.

Palombizio racked up 1,368 points in just two seasons at Ball State and helped the Cardinals to their second NCAA tournament appearance in 1986. He and Larry Bullington, another hall of fame member, both reached the 1,000-point mark in 41 games, the fewest in school history.

At Michigan City Rogers, Palombizio became just the second player in Indiana history to be named first-team all-state three years. He led the state with averages of 31.8 points and 17.1 rebounds per game as a senior. He finished his high school career with 2,092 career points.

Players become eligible for the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame induction 26 years after playing high school basketball. A state-wide board of directors composed of coaches, journalists, administrators, and businessmen oversees the selection process.
