Men's Hoops Signs Two Indiana High School Standouts

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men's basketball program has added a pair of Indiana high school standouts during the NCAA's early signing period, which opened Wednesday.

Zavier Turner of Pike High School in Indianapolis and Franko House of Concord High School in Elkhart signed National Letters of Intent to attend Ball State and compete for the Cardinals. Both players are rated among the top 15 recruits in the state this year by Indiana Recruiting Guide.

"We are really excited to welcome Zavier and Franko to our Ball State basketball program," Cardinals head coach Billy Taylor said. "They are both terrific young men who come from very well respected high school programs."

Turner, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound point guard, is entering his senior season at Pike for coach Bill Zych. He averaged 15.0 points and 6.2 assists per game as a junior, helping the Red Devils to their first regional title in nine years and a trip to the Class 4A state championship game.

Turner took over the point guard reigns at Pike from Marquis Teague, who played one season at Kentucky and then was drafted by the Chicago Bulls. He averaged 14.0 points per game as a sophomore and helped the Red Devils to a sectional crown. Turner also played for one of the top AAU programs in the country with the Eric Gordon All-Stars.

"Zavier is a true point guard who has the ability to get in the paint and create opportunities for others, Taylor said. "He has also proved to be a big-game player as evidenced by Pike's success last year in the Indiana high school state tournament."

House, a 6-foot-6, 245-pound forward, is entering his senior season at Concord for coach Steve Austin. He has started for the Minutemen since his freshman season and has been selected to the Elkhart Truth All-Area First Team each of the past two years.

House led Concord with averages of 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as a junior last season. He scored 15.0 points per game as a sophomore for Concord's sectional championship team. House, who played for the Indiana Elite AAU program, was also widely recruited in football. He excelled as a tight end and defensive end for Concord.

"Franko is a powerful and athletic frontcourt player," Taylor said. "He has shown a wide range of basketball skills on the perimeter and in the low post. Franko also has a very physical body that will allow him to rebound the basketball at a high level."

Turner and House will join the Ball State program for the 2013-14 season.
