MUNCIE, Ind. - - For her efforts in helping guide the Ball State women’s volleyball team to the Hawkeye Challenge title last weekend, senior libero Catie Fredrich has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Fredrich is the Cardinals’ first MAC women’s volleyball weekly award winner this season and is now a seven-time career MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week honoree.
Over BSU’s four matches at the Hawkeye Challenge, Fredrich averaged 4.86 digs per set and posted a perfect 1.000 reception percentage (44-for-44). She also served up five aces in the tournament.
She opened the event with 22 digs in the win over Western Illinois, before collecting a season-high 25 digs hours later to help BSU knock off Big Ten foe and tournament host Iowa. Saturday, she collected 14 digs versus Drake and seven against UIC.
Fredrich enters Tuesday’s match versus IUPUI ranked fifth in program history with 1,554 career digs. She needs just 99 more digs to climb into third in BSU’s record book and could become just the third player in program history to reach 2,000 career digs with 446 more this season.Fredrich, who has collected double-digit digs in 10 matches this season, also ranks fourth in career matches with double-digit digs (81), fourth in career digs-per-set average (4.08) and tied for fourth in career matches with 20-or-more digs (24).
