MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team opened its doubleheader with a close 4-3 loss to Marquette.  The Cardinals would then regroup in the night cap defeating Dayton, 4-0.  After today’s dual action Ball State is now 8-2 overall in spring play.

The Cardinals captured the doubles point over the Golden Eagles to start the match off.  Toni Ormond and Kristel Sanders paired up for the 8-5 win over Ali Dawson and Laia Hernandez Soler at the No. 2 spot.  After that, it was up to the No. 1 doubles tandem of Courtney Earnest and Bethany Moore.  The Cardinals' twosome took down the Golden Eagles duo of Erin Gebes and Rocio Diaz (8-6) to claim the point.

In singles action, the Golden Eagles knotted the match 1-1 after Hernandez Soler took down Moore in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.  Ayaka Terashi won at No. 6 singles with a straight set victory over Aleeza Kanner, (7-5, 6-4) giving Ball State the 2-1 edge over Marquette.  The Golden Flashes then went on to win at the No. 4, No. 3 and No. 1 positions to go up 4-2, claiming the match over the Cardinals.  Courtney Wild was the last match off the court, after dropping her first set 5-7, Wild battled back to take the match from Gebes, 6-1, 6-4.

Ball State regrouped in the night cap dominating Dayton in doubles and singles.  A shortened match due to the Cardinals winning the doubles point and three singles, leaving a combined four matches unfinished including the No. 1 doubles match along with singles courts one, three and four.  Sanders, Ashlyn Rang and Rozenberg all won in their respective positions all in straight sets.  Ormond and Rang paired up to claim an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles while Marin Kanii and Terashi took the point with their 8-1 defeat over the Flyers Alex Townsend and Claire Herinda.

The Cardinals return to the courts Sunday at Big Ten foe Indiana in Bloomington.  First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
