MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (5-1) won its third straight match and sixth of the season after notching a 6-1 victory over visiting Cleveland State (0-4) Saturday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
Toni Ormond and Kristel Sanders paired up to win the first doubles match of the day after their 6-3 defeat over Cleveland State's Alex Power and Princess Gbadamosi. After the Cardinals dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 1 doubles, the Ball State twosome of Courtney Wild and Ashlyn Rang clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (4) win over Mathlide Orange and Ellen Folkers.
Ball State took their 1-0 momentum into singles action with the Cardinals winning five of six matches over Cleveland State. Courtney Earnest gave the Cardinals the 2-0 advantage over the Vikings after earning the 6-1, 6-0, win over Kara Sherwood at the No. 2 position. Cleveland State would take the match at the No. 4 spot to make the score 2-1 but then the Cardinals won in straight sets the remainder of the way. Ayaka Terashi clinched the victory for the Cardinals after taking a 6-2, 6-2 match over Ellen Folkers.
The Ball State women’s tennis team will return to action Feb. 15 when it hosts Cincinnati at 1 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
