MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's tennis team will look to continue its winning ways Saturday in Mid-American Conference action, as the Cardinals host the defending MAC Tournament champions, the Miami RedHawks, at 1 p.m. The match will be played at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting. If moved indoors, it will be played at the YMCA Tennis Center.
Ball State (11-6, 1-0 MAC) enters the weekend on a two-match win streak after the Cardinals defeated Butler 5-2 (3/15) and Northern Illinois 6-1 (3/21). The Cardinals are led by sophomore Courtney Earnest who owns an 11-3 dual mark with a 3-1 record at the No. 1 singles position and an 8-2 ledger when playing on court two. Miami (8-4, 1-0 MAC) is coming off of a 6-1 victory over Northern Illinois (3/22) in Oxford, Ohio.
“Miami is a fantastic program that has a lot of talented and tough players," Ball State head women's tennis coach Max Norris said. "We are excited at the opportunity to compete against them. As I've told the players, we are 0-0 every day. Tomorrow is another day to see what we can accomplish."
Last year the Cardinals snapped Miami's 33-match MAC regular season win streak after Ball State earned a 4-3 road victory in Oxford. Senior Kristel Sander’s three-set singles victory claimed the historic win for the Cardinals last season. It was only the second time in program history that Ball State had defeated Miami along with a 5-4 win in the 1994-95 season.
After Saturday’s match, the Ball State women's tennis team begins a four-match Mid-American Conference road-swing which starts Friday, April 4 at Akron with the match starting at 1 p.m.
