MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep over Western Illinois Friday evening at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. With the win the Cardinals improve their overall record to 9-5 on the season.
Ball State took an early 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches. Senior Kristel Sanders paired up with junior Ashlyn Rang to take down WIU's Jessica Callahan and Andriana Johnson, 8-0, on court two. Freshman duo Marin Kanii and Anna Rozenberg contined their winning ways for the Cardinals, earning an 8-1 defeat over Ese Davis and Melissa Alger at the No. 3 position. The pair now has a combined 5-1 record on the doubles court between them.
The Cardinals won all six singles matches over the Leathernecks in straight sets. Toni Ormond and Kanii did not lose a game over their opponents, both winning their respective matches 6-0, 6-0. Bethany Moore won in the first position, with Ayaka Terashi (No. 3), Rang (No. 4) and Rozenberg (No. 5) also registering singles wins.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues its two-match home stand when it hosts Xavier saturday at 1 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
