MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After day one at the USTA/ITA Regional Championship hosted by Memphis, the Ball State tennis team placed five Cardinals in the main draw along with two doubles teams.
Junior Ashlyn Rang went 1-1 in the qualifying singles round but managed to still earn a spot in the main draw which will begin Saturday. Rang took down Alison Storie of Chattanooga in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 before falling in two sets to Stephanie Fox.
In the doubles qualifier, Courtney Wild paired up with Rang to earn the 8-5 victory over Middle Tennessee State's twosome of Flavia Nagayama and Irina Constantinide. Wild and Rang would lose their second competition. Courtney Earnest and Toni Ormond advanced to the main draw after posting an 8-2 win over Chattanooga's Katie Polk and Alison Storie. Earnest and Ormond would then take down Eastern Kentucky's Saioa Oscoz and Milena Poffo by a score of 8-6.
The Ball State women's tennis team will begin its main draw competition, Saturday at 1 p.m.
