KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Ball State women's tennis team (13-10, 4-3 MAC) won a hard fought 4-3 battle at Western Michigan (11-11, 4-2 MAC) Saturday afternoon at West Hills.
Western Michigan took the doubles point winning on courts two and three. Ball State's twosome of Courtney Wild and Courtney Earnest won their match 8-6 at No. 1 doubles over Caroline Aleck and Kathleen Hawkins.
The Cardinals started singles action down 1-0 to the Broncos but Earnest quickly knotted the match after taking down Maggie Remynse in straight sets at the No. 2 position. Wild would then put Ball State up 2-1 over Western Michigan after her 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 victory versus Nini Sujashvili.
Western Michigan would win on court four to tie the match again 2-2. Kristel Sanders answered quickly with the 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 win against Jill Pastunink at the No. 4 spot which gave Ball State back the lead. Bethany Moore would then clinch the conference win on court five for Ball State after winning in three sets over Caroline Aleck.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action on the road at Northern Illinois Friday at 2 p.m. (EST).
