OXFORD, Ill. - The Ball State women's tennis team (10-7, 1-0 MAC) won a 4-3 Mid-American Conference opening match thriller at Miami Saturday afternoon in Oxford.

"Thrilled to start off the 2013 MAC season with a win against Miami," said head women's tennis coach Christine Bader.  "This was a match our team really deserved to win. We started off well with a lot of energy and fight in doubles and carried that into the singles. It was very rewarding to see Kristel Sanders step up in the third set and play tough, even when she was down 4-2, to come back and clinch the match."

Kristel Sanders three set sinlges victory claimed the historic win for the Cardinals.  Before the loss Saturday Miami had won 33 straight MAC regular season matches.  It is only the second time in school history that Ball State has defeated the RedHawks.  Miami has won 17 MAC regular season championships.

Ball State managed to win the doubles point after Courtney Wild and Courtney Earnes defeated Christine Guerrazzi and Alix Thurman at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-6.  At the No. 2 doubles spot, Kristel Sanders and Bethany Moore took down Ana Rajikovic and Nimisha Mohan, 8-2.
