Women's Tennis Ends Fall Play At FIU Invite
MIAMI, Fla. - The Ball State women's tennis team finished its 2012 fall tournament play at Florida International Sunday afternoon located at the FIU Tennis Courts.
In singles action Saturday, three Cardinals remained undefeated in their respective flights improving to 2-0 for the weekend. Sophomore Courtney Wild won in three sets over Marta Burak of Youngstown State in flight one singles. Both junior Kristel Sanders and teammate freshman Courtney Earnest won matches over Lotte Gras of FIU and Hannah Dake of Air Force, respectively in flight two.
Freshman Ayaka Terashi has posted a 1-1 stint so far along at FIU along with senior Paola Rodriguez. Terashi defeated Margari Sadovnikova in three sets and Rodriguez was victorious over Carolyn Jesko, 6-4, 6-1.
The twosome of Wild and freshman Bethany Moore posted a 9-7 doubles win over Linda Fritschken and Isa del Miro of Barry University.
On the last day of competition, the Cardinals had three winners on the day starting with Earnest who defeated Lotte Gras 6-2, 6-0 in the flight two singles. Moore captured a three set come from behind victory after beating Anastasia Hueffner of Air Force, 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 while Rodriguez took down Gimena Puppo 7-6 (8-3), 6-2.
The Ball State women's tennis team will be back in action at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center, Jan. 19 when it hosts IUPUI for its first match of the 2013 season.
