Women's Tennis Sweeps MAC Weekly Honors
MUNCIE, Ind. - Following a Mid-American Conference sweep at Akron and Buffalo last weekend, Ball State junior singles player Courtney Wild along with the doubles tandem of sophomores Courtney Earnest and Bethany Moore have swept the MAC Player Singles and Doubles Player of the Week honors.
"Wild showed great resolve to win her match," said Ball State head women's tennis coach Max Norris. "Her opponent battled hard and really made her earn that match. That was a great accomplishment for her. For Bethany and Courtney I think they demonstrated great focus and had a great game plan against a very smart and experienced doubles team. They really lead the way for us. But overall, this was a team award. We all contributed in some way and at the root of these awards was that we won matches a team, as Ball State."
A three-time career MAC Singles Player of the Week, Wild opened league action Friday with a 6-2, 6-4 win over the Zips Olga Shkundina on court one to help Ball State beat Akron by a score of 6-1. Wild then helped the Cardinals clinch the win Saturday at Buffalo by picking up a pivotal victory at No. 2 singles. With the wins, Ball State improved to 13-7 overall and 3-1 in league action. Wild now owns a 10-5 dual mark while improving to 3-1 in the MAC.
