LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team ended its first day of competition at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals which was hosted by Purdue University Thursday afternoon.
"I was proud of our true freshman Courtney Earnest, to qualify into the main draw after winning both of her singles matches today in three sets," said Ball State women's tennis coach Christine Bader. "Also, it was great to see Paola Rodriguez and Lauren Pickrel fight hard to come back and win their first doubles match against Southeast Missouri.
In the women's qualifying single round of 32, freshman Courtney Earnest advanced to the main draw after defeating Saioa Oscoz of EKU in a three set thriller, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Earnest won another tough three set match against Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff of Kentucky, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
The Cardinals twosome of seniors Lauren Pickrel and Paola Rodriguez took down Southeast Missouri's duo of Nikole Novikova and Elizabeith Nyenwe by a score of 9-7 but then lost in the quarterfinals of the qualifying doubles flight.
The Ball State women's tennis team will continue action at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals Friday on the campus of Purdue University.
