MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State baseball head coach Greg Beals officially released the 2009 schedule, which includes 24 games at Ball Diamond. In addition to playing 15-of-27 Mid-American Conference games at home, the Cardinals will also host Big 10 foes Indiana (April 15) and Purdue (April 28).
The Cardinals will open the 2009 season February 20-22 with a four-game series in Greenville, S.C. against Furman. Ball State will spend the next weekend at the Austin Peay Tournament playing a total of four games, with one game against Indiana and Cleveland State and two contests against host APSU.
The Cardinals face a stiff test March 6-8 when they travel to Columbia, Mo. for a four-game set against 2008 NCAA Regional participant Missouri. Ball State will play a quick two-game set at Southern Illinois March 10-11 before heading back to Muncie to open the home portion of the schedule March 13-15 with a four-game series against Chicago State.
After a road game at Notre Dame (March 17), the Cardinals open MAC play March 20-22 when they welcome in Akron for a three-game series. Ball State will also play home conference series with Kent State, Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Toledo. Road MAC series for Cardinals include trips to Buffalo, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois.
In addition, the Cardinals play 11 midweek non-conference games including trips to Notre Dame, Indiana State (March 25), Louisville (April 1), Purdue (April 7), Ohio State (April 22) and Michigan (May 12).
The top eight teams from the MAC regular season advance to the 2009 MAC Tournament, which will be held May 20-24 at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio for the second straight year.
