Sean Godfrey, a senior outfielder on the Ball State baseball team, has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, for his performance in the Cardinals' five games last week.
Godfrey led Ball State to a 4-1 record last week, including a three-game sweep of Eastern Michigan in MAC play.
Godfrey batted .545 for the week, including a .643 batting average in the three games against Eastern Michigan. In addition, Godfrey managed a 1.000 slugging percentage with the help of four doubles and two home runs in the five games last week. Godfrey’s offensive heroics started with a fourth-inning grand slam that lifted the Cardinals to a 7-3 victory in the second game of the series, and ended with a walk-off double down the left field line in the bottom of the ninth that scored Ball State’s winning run in its 6-5 Sunday win over the Eagles.
With the wins, Ball State improved to 22-10 overall and 7-1 in conference action. The Cardinals are one half game behind MAC West Division leader Central Michigan, which is 8-1 in league play on the season.
Ball State will travel to Butler Wednesday for a midweek non-conference game before travelling to Toledo for a MAC three-game series Friday through Sunday.
